Gary D. “Gabe” Landis, 84, Berlin, passed away February 18, 2026 at the James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center in Altoona. Born September 15, 1941 in Macdonaldton, the fifth son of Judd A. and Ruby (Diveley) Foor Landis. Preceded in death by parents, brothers John Foor and Judd R. Landis, sister Barby Landis, and brothers-in-law James Cook, Elmer Faidley Jr., and George Faidley, Jr. Survived by his children: Michelle (David) Engleka, Mark Landis (Wanda Gerhard), and Michael Landis; granddaughter Sarah Engleka and her son Braden Gerber; grandson Derek (Bethany) Engleka and their children Orson and Ilani; brothers: William (Vera), Stanton (Bonnie), and Edward (Shirley) Landis, and sisters: Judy Cook, Sally Faidley, and Sharen Faidley. He was a 1959 graduate of Berlin Brothersvalley High School and was a disabled US Army veteran. He was a long-time member of Berlin Brethren Church. Gabe was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a 55+ years member of the American Legion. He donated over 100 units of blood to the American Red Cross. He loved to travel and made yearly trips to Florida, as well as several trips each year to Ocean City, MD. He also made yearly trips to the Outer Banks. He traveled throughout the country on bus trips with the “Over the Hill” gang. Gabe worked at the state hospitals in Norristown and Somerset, and also worked as a guard at the Laurel Highlands State prison. He was always available to assist members of his family and others when needed. He helped care for his disabled sister in the last years of her life. He made numerous trips to Pittsburgh and other places taking people back and forth to doctors and hospitals. Viewing from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin.
